For Sale – Elm Hollow’s Nola, AHCA # 70964

A smart, sweet, petite heifer for your fold.

Nola was the first calf of the 2025 season for Elm Hollow Farm. She has her mother’s correct structure and her petite frame. Her genetic background includes names like G&H Farm’s Bosco, Sunset Double Take, PGH Sunsong Victory, CGH Snow Angel, JTM Chloe, and Loc Bhreagh Nic Toiseach.

When I first saw this calf, I swore I could not let her go. But this was a year of heifers here and we can’t keep them all. Nola’s dam, Windkist Acres Lily, is a very correct, petite girl with a sweet temperament and natural maternal skills that just amazed us all.

When Nola entered halter training, she was the smallest of the calves and the most cooperative. Now she is just that sweet girl that makes us want to get down to the calves as soon as possible each morning. She will be the most missed of this halter class.

Nola’s genetic background is excellent!

If you’ve never participated in an Elm Hollow sale, please read on about the “SALES PROCESS AT ELM HOLLOW FARM”. This is a low key, auction style sale with plenty of time between bids to ask questions and consider your bid. We do ask that bidding be in increments of $100 or more. Send me an email at nancy@elmhollowfarm.com if you want to be included in the sale. I’ll contact you before the sale to chat a bit. The sale is conducted through email.

Nola’s auction is scheduled for Tuesday, July 29, 7:00 pm Eastern Time. The opening bid is $8,000.

Update: Nola sold for $8,100.

SALES PROCESS at ELM HOLLOW FARM

I’ve had several people tell me that they missed out on a calf (or cow) they really had their heart set on when I just posted them for sale and sold them to the first responder because they sell so quickly. The announcements of available calves will be sent out to everyone on the newsletter list at least three days before the actual sale and will include the exact date and time the sale will take place.

The announcement will include pictures and description of the calf or cow that is for sale along with the genetic background including three generations. It will also include my comments about the calf and the minimum price, which will be the opening bid price for our modified auction described below.

During the time between the announcement of the sale and the actual sale day, anyone who is interested in participating in the sale should email me that they will be bidding on that particular calf, so I can create an email list of bidders before we begin the sale. nancy@elmhollowfarm.com You may submit your opening bid during that time if you wish, but you don’t have to make a bid at this time.

I plan to begin sales at 7:00 PM Eastern time with updates every 15 minutes, and we will conclude the sale at 8:00 PM or such time as all but one bidder has dropped out. As before, if there is still active bidding going on at the closing time of the sale, 8:00 PM, those bidders will be put into a joint email chain so they can communicate directly with me and with each other. (An active bidder is a bidder who has made an offer above the highest offer within 15 minutes since the high bid was placed)

This method will allow everyone a heads up that a calf is for sale and time spent watching the sale is cut down to just a one hour window on one evening.

Direct any questions to nancy@elmhollowfarm.com

Please be aware that the minimum price stated is probably not the price the calf or cow will actually sell for. Visit our Highlands for Sale page to see beginning prices and the sale prices from last year.

Following are some photos of her progress from day one to now:

Even though Nola is in the foreground, she is obviously smaller than her classmates. For those who are looking for a smaller framed heifer, you can’t go wrong with this sweet girl.

Windkist Acres Lily as a highland yearling

Nola’s Dam, Windkist Acres Lily placed 4th in a large class of yearlings, even though she was not “fitted” for the show. We were very proud of her.

Nola’s Sire, Elm Hollow’s Levi, was reserve champion of his division; again with just a bath and brushing. I don’t know if we will ever clip and fit our babies for showing.
