For Sale – Elm Hollow’s River, AHCA # 72442

River was a sure-fire keeper from the day she was born. The only reason we are considering her sale is that we have a lot of her genetics here already and the price of hay has increased so much that we need to let a couple of our heifers go. We sold one in July, and it has taken us weeks to make the decision on who to offer next.

I’m really torn about letting her go. She went to the vet on August 3; she can have a health certificate ready for transport any day through September 2. If she hasn’t been snapped up by then, I guess she’ll just have to stay here. I’ve put together some details, and I have recent videos if you care to send an email requesting those.

River as she grew: Much to my horror, I just realized that these are the only baby photos I have of River. We were absolutely positive we were going to keep her and so we had the baby pics we needed and her next big photo shoot would be of her with her first baby.

Although she looked more silver right at birth, River quickly took on a reddish color. Her dark nose is the give away that she is actually dun. She has been color tested by UC Davis and is definitely dun.

Now she looks much more dun unless it is near sunset when she actually looks brindle. This is the reason her name is River. Rivers are always changing and since it was an “R” year, I decided that would be an appropriate name for her.

On Friday July 31, my daughter pulled River out of the pasture for grooming. She was halter trained in August of 2025 and was not an honor student in that class. We had no idea how River would react to being haltered, tied, and groomed after a year of not having been handled much at all.

If you are interested in her current temperament around people, send me an email: nancy@elmhollowfarm.com and I will share the unedited videos we took of her.
