For Sale – Elm Hollow’s Roseanna, AHCA # 71446
A yellow heifer calf with excellent genetics for a low-touch fold.
People often ask me how much a calf is and if we haven’t actually worked with the calf, I tell them I’ll know after we get into halter training. Four things go into the pricing one of our calves. Gender, Genetics, Conformation to Scottish Highland standards, and Temperament. Heifer calves that score high in all four areas will start at a minimum of $7,000 and have been known to sell as high as $12,000 as buyers make offers on them.
Roseanna scored very high in three of the four areas. Her yellow coloring even gave her a bit of leg up, but her downfall is temperament. Not that she is mean or aggressive; she is simply head shy. This means that we cannot put a halter on her without causing her a lot of trauma. Otherwise, she is gorgeous! She loves to hang out with Regal Lad even to this day.
In the middle of halter school I gave up on the regular halter and tried a less restrictive field halter on her. She tolerated it, but didn’t really like it. That’s when Sarah decided to just try to groom her with no halter at all!
I have videos available of the progress she made right away when we quit trying to restrain her with the halter. Please email nancy@elmhollowfarm.com or send me a text 912-674-8401 and I can share those with you.
