Elm Hollow’s Jager

We really like this boy and he can stick around for a while as far as we’re concerned, but since we have another, slightly older red bull, he is not desperately needed this season so I’m offering him for sale.

Jager was a mama’s boy and his mama, Muirneag 3rd of VH is one of our most attentive mothers. She is also dam to our, Big Ridge Fergus.

Jager is shown here at 5 months with Muirneag.

BR Voodoo Magic is sire to this handsome, 9 month old bull calf.

Jager AHCA #60393

DOB: 3/14/2020
Offered at $3,000.

Rockhouse Katherine & Calf

Rockhouse Katherine AHCA # 57721 and her bull calf are now available. The calf is Elm Hollow’s Jack’O, an unregistered steer-quality calf.

Because we’ve kept several of our Heifer calves from last year and the year before, it is time to make some tough decisions about which cows stay and which cows move on to make room for the new heifers.

I’ll probably regret this one . . . Katherine is a first-time mama and she delivered her calf unassisted. She is an attentive mother to her healthy bull calf. If you’re interested in a good, strong cow for your fold, this in an opportunity you won’t want to miss.

I want to be hands-on with all my girls, and so far, Katherine is the only one who does not come right up and allow me to groom her in the pasture. She is not spooky and wild, she is not aggressive at all, but just stand offish. If she was in a smaller herd, I think she would be easily won over.

Katherine came to us halter trained at 18 months, but with so many others vying for the attention of the brush, she has continued to stand back. She is pictured wearing a halter at 18 months.

Elm Hollow’s Just Herb

Elm Hollow’s Just Herb is halter trained and ready for his new home. Herb is a pet quality unregistered steer. Herb can be AHCA registered, if that is important to you. That cost is $100.

NOTE: Even as a pet, a Highland needs a companion animal to keep from developing undesirable behavior. They will seek other bovine companionship. Just Herb gets along great with the heifer calf listed below – GHF Cinnamon. We’d love for them to stay together and will offer a $250 discount for the pair at $3,200.

He will be unaffected by the hormonal changes of breeding season and will be the perfect companion for heifers that are too young to breed or bulls that are not actively in with a herd for breeding. Not to mention that he is a cute as a bug and small as Highlands go.

Just Herb is pictured with his dam, Big Ridge Elsee AHCA #56396; and sire Big Ridge Fergus, AHCA #57487

Just Herb’s AHCA No. U13365 (unregistered)

DOB: 3/13/2020
Offered at $1,500 steered and unregistered.

GHF Cinnamon

GHF Cinnamon, ACHA Registered #60651, is halter trained and was shown by her previous owner. When she came to Elm Hollow, she met Herb and the two of them have been best pals since.

Both are on the smaller side and would make great first Highlands. Because Highland heifers should not be bred until they are at least 2.5 years old, Herb (a steer) would make a great companion for Cinnamon.

NOTE: Even as a pet, a Highland needs a companion animal to keep from developing undesirable behavior. They will seek other bovine companionship. Just Herb and Cinnamon get along great. We’d love for them to stay together and will offer a $250 discount for the pair at $3,200.

GHF Cinnamon AHCA Registration No. is #60651

Note that Cinnamon has two impact dams and an impact sire in her lineage.

LiTerra Nadia

LiTerra Nadia is a stunning, 5 year old brindle cow who fancies herself destined to be the Matriarch here at Elm Hollow Farm. The problem with that is Elm Hollow already has a Matriarch. Since there isn’t room for two, Nadia needs to find a fold of her own. This has been a very difficult decision for us since Nadia has produced three fantastic calves for us and is bred back to EH Ferrell AHCA # 57706, and is due to calve in late November.

Nadia never turns down a good brushing. Her first calf was shown at Nationals in Denver two years and although she didn’t win, she was a crowd favorite.

With her next calving, she gave us our first set of twins. She has always calved independently and is an excellent mother. That said, she did think one calf at a time is the limit, so we found a surrogate for one of the twins.

Nadia is not a beginner cow. She loves grain and while this makes it very easy to move her from place to place and to load her into a trailer, she can become over exuberant at times and has been known to knock a feed bucket out of your hand if you aren’t careful.

Nadia’s AHCA registration #55217.

DOB: 04/14/2015
Offered at $4,000

Heaven’s Star

Star is a sweet, even tempered, large, dun heifer who accepted the halter quickly. She was easy to train, and loves attention.

EH Heaven’s Star born on Oct. 22, 2019 to Call It A Farm Lavena and sired by Duncan II of Faye-AAA.

There are some calves that you just really don’t want to let go, but you cannot keep them all. This calf will be an outstanding addition to any fold.

Her dam weighed in at 1180# after nursing this big girl for 6 months. Star will be at least as big as her mom if her size at 7 months is any indicator. She is the largest heifer calf we have ever raised here.

She will be soon be posted on our for sale page. If you are interested in the meantime, give us a shout.

Star’s AHCA registration # is 59,794

DOB: 10/22/2019
Offered at $3,000

Carol

Carol is a very sweet tempered little heifer who came up to me on her own in the pasture to be petted when she was about 5 months old. She was easy to halter train.

Carol and her twin sister were born on Oct. 29, 2019 to LaTierra Nadia and sired by Red Road’s Rufus. Nadia thought one calf was plenty, so Lucy Moo now resides with her surrogate mom, Amber, at Higher Ground Herbs and Homestead.

Nadia’s is AHCA registered, #55,217. Her weight after calving & nursing was 1165 pounds. She is show with the twins on their birthday, and being brushed out in pasture. Rufus, the son of Sunset Rebel Yell, is also AHCA registered, #53815, pictured last.

Carol is registered with AHCA # 59,795.

Offered at $2,800
