Halter training is under way

Sarah has halter training well underway and the calves are doing great!  Bruce is busy constructing us a permanent wash area so we can have these fluffs clean and ready to transport to the National Whitewater Center in Charlotte, NC in October.  These calves will enjoy attention and treats from all their adoring fans who visit the Whitewater Center this winter.  Calves will be there from late October 2026 until mid-March 2027. These are the members of the new class.

Elm Hollow’s Star Shine

I’m often asked to help other breeders sell a calf that is ready to leave home and the first thing I ask is if that calf is halter trained. Many of the sellers seeking that assistance tell me that halter training is too much effort. Let me just tell you that calves that spend the winter months at the Whitewater Center are very will socialized. More information will be available at the Whitewater Center.

Elm Hollow has Two Gentle Cows Looking for a New Position Together!!

Both DH Lulu and Elm Hollow’s Jamesie are favorites with those who book tours with Elm Hollow farm.  Because Lulu is Jamesie’s mother, the pair has been together all their lives and would probably like to remain together, but both would adjust to being on their own.  Their perfect placement would be a setting where they would have loads of attention and get treats and brushing daily.  Lulu truly believes she is the queen and her subjects owe her their undivided attention.  She doesn’t hesitate to let you know that. Jamesie might be fine on her own, but when we took her to the vet for a preg check, Lulu stood at the gate and cried until we got home and she saw Jamesie.  Shown here along with Jamesie’s most recent calf, getting their own special attention.  If you are interested in very gentle cows for your farm or venue, please contact me for more information.  nancy@elmhollowfarm.com.

Lulu’s wonky horn is from a broken horn as a calf, Jamesie is Lulu’s daughter and her horns are perfect as you can see.  Both Lulu and Jamesie calve independently.  In August of 2025, Lulu calved independently, but we did need to drain one quarter to get it softer and smaller for Raquel (right) to nurse it.  Once that was done, all went normally.

Jamesie’s last calf, Raleah Brinn, (left) thrived from the very beginning.  Both cows are easy going when we handle their calves. Both of their most recent calves are keepers.  Both Lulu and Jamesie have many calves in their future.  Lulu is bred to BR Voodoo Magic for a late January calf.  Jamesie is open and ready to breed. Both of these cows are halter trained.
